Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet town within the West Island of Montreal is home to a number of small companies. This is also known as the West Island, which is frequently described as a separate "island" located west of Montreal for those unfamiliar with it, actually includes everything that is west of Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there in fact, it's true. The only thing is that she spent a short period of time there. Brugel was raised in Courtice outside of Oshawa. Her initial goals were to become a professional dancer. In the end, however, her growth rise meant that she had outgrown her dance partners. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted, "In heels at 6' 1 inch. When I outgrew my male counterparts, I stopped. Some former dancers switch to acting and in Brugel's case it was an nudge from a high school drama teacher that led her in the appropriate direction. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to take on a part in the school's annual production. She tried out and ended up playing the leading role on the show Anne of Green Gables. She was given a Fine Arts Talent scholarship at York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with the Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts in 2000.
